MEW — “cat in a dogs world” — is the feline insurgency of Solana's memecoin scene: a token whose entire thesis was that the chain's dog dynasty needed opposition.

Origin

MEW launched on Solana in March 2024 with a manifesto compressed into its tagline: in a world full of dogs, be a cat. It arrived as the Bonk and WIF era peaked, positioning cats as the counterculture.

Rise

The cat rebellion worked: MEW vaulted into the top ranks of Solana memecoins within weeks, and together with Popcat established that the animal-coin wars would be fought along species lines. The dogs still outnumber the cats; the cats consider this thematically correct.

Connections

MEW leads the feline faction with Popcat and Michi, in eternal opposition to the dog dynasty of Doge, Bonk and WIF.
