OGRE is the swamp-lord of the roster — the layered green strongman whose source film became one of the most meme-recycled movies ever made, decades after release.

Origin

The big green ogre arrived in the 2001 DreamWorks animated film built on William Steig's picture book — a fairy-tale grump with a donkey sidekick, an all-timer soundtrack, and a swamp he would very much like you to get out of.

Rise

The internet's ogre-worship began ironically and became indistinguishable from sincerity: the “Shrek is love, Shrek is life” cycle around 2013, endless “All Star” remixes whose opening line is a global inside joke, ogre-themed conventions, and yearly resurrection on every platform. The character became a case study in how an entire film can function as a meme library — every frame quotable, every quote deep-fried.
