Origin

The blinker is Drew Scanlon, a video producer at the gaming site Giant Bomb, captured during a livestream in 2013 reacting to an offhand remark. The clip lay in archive until the GIF began circulating widely — its breakout into mainstream reaction usage is commonly dated to early 2017, when it became Twitter's default response to anything mildly unbelievable.

The Blinking Guy GIF is a masterclass in minimalism: no caption required, no context needed, universally legible across languages. It has ranked among the most-used reaction GIFs ever since.
